Spirit Lake Trailtopia in the Works
Alison Boggs, one of my favorite writers still left at the Spokesman Review, has a great piece on formalizing a trail system between Spirit Lake and Mt. Spokane. This is an awesome idea. Better yet, the Spirit Lake community is viewing the projects as an economic development initiative. Right on. One question: How can we help?

This reminds me of Rathdrum’s idea to turn Rathdrum Mountain into a trailtopia. There was talk about attracting mountain bike races and horse events. Never heard how that worked out for them.
David,
Thanks for the perspective. I guess everything sounds good in the early stages. Usually these sorts of initiatives just need really strong dedicated personalities to make them a reality. I wish them best of luck. I believe there is a solid market for their end product.
With Mount Spokane State Park on the list of potential Parks to be closed by WA. Do you think this potential closures will effect the possible economic development initiative? Could this initiative effect the status of Mt. Spokane State Park in the future?
For more information of State Park closures see the the Washington Trail Association web site link above.
Thanks for the comment and thanks for the link. I don’t have an answer to your questions. But check the closure list:
http://www.wta.org/trail-news/magazine/projected-state-park-closures
It shows that Mt. Spokane has one of the lowest expenditure to visitor ratios of any park on the closure list.
