Cool Water Bikes in Need of Support

Cool Water Bikes, the bicycle shop that works alongside homeless youth, is in danger of closing its doors.

The non-profit is owned and operated by Cup of Cool Water, a Christian ministry working with Spokane’s street youth since 1995. The shop refurbishes and sells used bicycles, new and used parts, and accessories as well as offers full services for bikes.

The program also builds relationships with homeless youth. Volunteers mentor the kids by working with them on the bikes. The youth learn important skills and build meaningful relationships through repairing bicycles, organizing and cleaning the shop, and helping retail customers.

Cool Water Bikes was first established in July 2008, but needs a significant increase in funds this summer in order to keep going. With only one paid staff member and several volunteers, the program is looking to employ a second paid staff member to allow them to provide the best services and mentorship they can.

In 2015, only 58% of expenses were covered by sales revenue. The non-profit is dependent on financial donations to cover the rest. Learn more about the program here, or click here to donate and keep the program going strong.
